The 1957 Telecaster® Journeyman Relic®, part of the 2023 Fender Custom Shop collection, is an exquisite recreation of a particularly valuable vintage Telecaster, with a look, sound, and vibe reminiscent of the model from its debut later in the decade. .
The two-piece Select Ash body produces sweet midrange and tight bass, and is dressed in a striking Journeyman Relic lacquer finish of Aged White Blonde, Wide Fade Two-Color Sunburst, and Aged Candy Tangerine. This special finish recreates a look that has changed hands or been passed down through the years, giving it the feel of a home that has been used a fair amount for the occasional jam session or weekend gig. I am wearing it. This is a well-maintained piece that perfectly reproduces light cracks, familiar scratches and dents in the wood, and slight hardware deterioration over time.
The one-piece quarter-sawn maple neck has a 57-style soft "V" profile that accurately recreates the comfortable period full-handed feel, and features a 9.5-inch radius with 21 narrow-tall frets (6105) and a bone nut. It has a maple fingerboard. Custom Shop hand-wound '58 Telecaster pickups with Fat' 50s Tele wiring deliver balanced midrange and low end with clear, crisp highs.
